Happy summer everyone! I hope everyone is enjoying relaxation and no school-related stress! Today I'm writing about my personal experience with having a summer job and explaining the goods and bads! Quick disclaimer! I know that my experience wont be the same as a lot of others, especially because I'm a nanny but I think that most of these are apparent in most jobs.

Wow guys... it seems like just last week that i created my blog and published my first entry. It's crazy that we are already well into 2018 and that I haven't posted a thing! After I created the blog I soon had to return to school(a dread I am sure many are aware of) and completely forgot about what I had started, and I promise that I will never let it happen again. With that said, I thought it would be fun to share what all I have been up to since we last spoke. So buckle up, grab a snack, and get ready to read 4 months of my hectic life in 1 blog...enjoy! :) Let's start at the beginning, a very good place to start(high five if you get the reference). January can be the best and the worst all together. It brings the feeling of newness and positivity, but if you're like me can also bring anxiety and thoughts of failure over dumb resolutions. I started off my 2018 with a few of my good friends and some solid hot chocolate. There was also a cat and it was absolutely adorable!!! After that I got the AMAZING opportunity to visit Graceland with one of my best friends! She and Elvis Presley share a birthday and so we went for his celebratory birthday week. We stayed in the Graceland hotel(right next to the real Graceland home and across the street from all of his museums). It was so amazing to go inside the home of such a legend and see all of his stage costumes, planes, and, vehicles(my personal favorite the pink Cadillac!). We had such a fun time going through Memphis and sightseeing many famous building, such as the Peabody where we got to see the hysterical and underrated duck march! When we came home it was time to start looking for a Winter Formal dress(Cotillion), and soon after that was Disciple Now, or DNOW weekend! This is one of my favorite weekends of the year because it provides a fun Christ-filled getaway during the boring lull of the school year. I always have so much fun being surrounded with my friends, amazing worship leaders, and all while learning about Jesus! This is where things get exciting, my wonderful state decided to get so cold that it snowed. Yes I am sure you know about this already but it actually snowed...in Texas!!! So this was a huge ordeal and my amazing school district cancelled school which meant playing in the snow all day! Okay enough about that...I then went on to go to my Advanced Workshop for Student Council, which let me set something straight, is not dorky in the SLIGHTEST. I am actually the class president for my grade(I know I'm SO cool) and Student Council has given me so many opportunities and leader characteristics, plus its a fun and good club to find peppy and hardworking people. Anyway, the workshop was over a weekend and I learned many new things and got to jump from a very uncomfortable height! Overall, very fun and memorable weekend. I then went and saw one of my best friend perform in her school's musical "Anything Goes", which was amazing! Finally my last event of January was not really an event more like a milestone, if you will. I started painting again! I rediscovered my love and got very inspired and just painted for days, it was great. Now onto February! The first week of February was intense... Cotillion preparations. This means nails, hair, eyebrow wax, boutonnière, and of course... a spray tan. Cotillion is very stressful but in the end it all pays off because you get to have an amazing, fun night with your friends and date(if you choose to have one). Next is possibly the best thing to happen to me this year, I got a job! I know this may not sound fun at all but I am a Nanny for the most amazing kids on the planet. I could go on and on about them but I wont because this entry is already so long(I couldn't find a picture but I am attaching a picture of their Great Dane "Hampton"). The next memory is another show that the same best friend was in. She played "Esmeralda"(dream role of mine) in The Hunchback of Notre Dame! It was one of the best shows I've ever seen and I cried watching her OWN the stage. Time for March! March did not start off so good:( I got into my first accident and we are still deciding whether I totaled my car or not(it's finally going to the shop next Monday). So that was upsetting but everyone was good and no one was hurt. Another sad thing follows, my turtle Posy-Grover(PG) passed away. We had a nice funeral for her and she is very missed. Okay enough sad stuff, Spring Break is here! I started off my SB with a trip to Galveston(TX), along with my whole family to see my little cousin's gymnastics team. It was so fun and very nostalgic because when I was little my favorite thing we did annually was take a trip down to the beach every summer. I got to lay out, swim, and have fun with my family. We then left Galveston, went home for a day, and drove to Colorado! The drive was incredibly long but was worth every minute once we got there. We went to the slopes and I tried snowboarding for the first time! It was great but quite scary because I have a large fear of falling off the side of the mountain. I want to move to Colorado one day because I favor cold weather, snow, and a real winter. The town we went to was the smallest I've ever seen or stayed in but was adorable nonetheless, 10/10 hope to go back. The next activity is probably the best thing to ever happen in my life, Lorde concert. I would like to start off by saying Lorde is my QUEEN. She is the probably the best artist of my generation and just everything about her is absolutely incredible. Her songs, her look, I actually love everything about her. The concert was the best I have ever been to and I loved it. I got tickets for my birthday and brought two of my best friends and we had so much fun! It was truly the best way to end March. Aren't you glad I'm finally at April! The beginning of April is a very exciting one! The company I do theatre with had their annual Broadway Night and I got to be apart of it! We did songs from The Lion King, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Oklahoma!, and West Side Story! Theatre is my favorite thing to do and I love being part of any show I can! Next up is state! Every year for Student Council we go to TASC State which is held in Arlington, TX. Here we learn about how to be leaders, sit and listen to amazing speakers, and vote on who we want to represent us on the TASC board. This lasts a little over a weekend and is so much fun. This was my first year to go and it was an absolute blast! We stayed at a nice hotel, went to see a movie, and on Sunday evening Six Flags shuts down the whole park for us and we get to have it all to ourselves! This is just another reason why I love STUCO. Right after this we had our annual school Powderpuff game, which is the Sophomore class fundraiser and since I am President of the Sophomore class I get to coordinate this event! It went great and I got to be a flag runner! For those who don't know what that is I'll explain, whenever a touchdown is made we have three people holding three flags of our schools initials run the flags across the field to let the stands know we scored. Throughout the day it was heavily debated on who would win but in the end the Seniors pulled through and won the game. After this was my county's annual fair! I won a fish but decided my parents would probably be upset if I brought home said fish, so my little brother gave it to a nice family. I get bad motion sickness so the fair is not really my safe place, but all that aside it was a lot of fun with my friends. The other night I went to a Jack Johnson concert with my boyfriend! It was so fun, his music is so nice and soothing to the ears and we had a great time. Finally, last night I got the opportunity to MC at my schools drill team spring show! It was an insane night because the script was totally messed up and we kept having to stall while they changed between numbers. It go so bad to the point where I was actually looking up jokes at the podium in front of the live audience(which they thought was hysterical so it was alright). Overall I would still most likely do it again:) There! I did it guys, 4 months of my mess of a life. Also, I bolded the things in which I feel like I could write another full entry about. So, if you see something you liked or think is interesting and its bolded, comment it! I am going to now stick to an uploading schedule of once a week. But don't worry because I will probably change it to twice or three times a week once school ends(only 3 more weeks!). I hope you all enjoyed and maybe learned a little about me! Leave a nice comment or something you would maybe like to see on my blog! Have a wonderful day everyone! God Bless! |
Merriam-Webster defines a passion as “a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept”. With that said, I would describe my love for writing as a passion. Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to write, so write I have been doing. For years I have kept journals, diaries, and anything I could write on. But there is one important factor in all of that, that I have missed out on; an audience. That is where you come in.
I intend to write interesting content frequently to help you throughout anything life brings. I will even bring you with me through my life’s ups and downs. I will write about a life lesson I have learned. I will review things for you that have impacted me in some shape or form (or just for funzies!). I will write about topics I feel the world should know and above all else, I will write about the things I feel I am moved to discuss with my audience. So with that, here is some more information about me😊:
My name is Kendall Balke. I am a 17-year-old living in the great state of Texas! I love musical theatre, writing and reading, babysitting, and philanthropy! My goal for this blog is to communicate with the world and to open my mind to new people and their ideas, while also sharing mine. My wish is to make a place for people to come and be able to read and converse with other readers, and soon make a community! I have so many ideas for this blog and I cannot wait to start writing and posting them!
Stay tuned!!!
